Warriors blast pass Latin School 6-0

Heating up at the snowy Cornfield Cup, Walsh Jesuit shut out Latin School from Chicago, IL, 6-0 at Culver Academy on Saturday, December 9 for the Warriors second win in as many days.

Drew Rossiter had a hat trick, Jonathan Gabriel a playmaker and Jakari Desphy a shutout while freshmen Sasha Trudel and Bill Holtzer each scored.
Drew Rossiter had a hat trick, Jonathan Gabriel a playmaker and Jakari Desphy a shutout while freshmen Sasha Trudel and Bill Holtzer each scored.
The first period game-winner came as Sasha Trudel carried the puck into the zone and hit the upper right corner from the top of the slot.  “Tactics are all designed to produce a shot from the slot [the area between the dots from the bottom to the top of the circle]. He scores because once in there, he shoots without delay,” remarked a tournament analyst.

The groggy start to the second period was jarred into motion by a Connor Coughlin big, clean hit. Rossiter scored his next two from the middle at the blue line, aided by screens in front. The third for the hat trick was on a power play earned by a high-pressure shift from Matt Lasker, Jackson Carrell and Hunter Nalepka.  Latin School tried to counter with their own power plays but Max Miotke shut them down with three short-handed chances and killing over a minute of 5-on-3 disadvantage with Easton Kindall and Rossiter.

LeVasseur’s face-off win from the right blue line dot flipped the puck into the zone for a hustling PJ Calleri who disrupted the clearing attempt. LeVasseur stopped it at the left hash, and finessed it between two defenders back down to Calleri.  His pass to the slot was converted by Holtzer for a 5-0 lead.  Walsh’s power play was on display for the last one, with Miotke spinning at the point, dropping it down low for Gabriel, feeding a perfect pass to LeVasseur sneaking into the far slot to slam it home.
