Warriors Drop Season-Opener in Overtime to Holy Name

The Walsh Jesuit hockey team came out tentative in their first league game of the year against Holy Name, falling behind 3-0 to the visiting Green Wave before storming back but ultimately falling 4-3 in overtime at the Kent State University Ice Arena On November 18.

According to Head Coach Pat McKendry, the overtime loss showed heart but failed to rescue a point in the standings from a game that looked rather bleak hal way through, as the Warrior crew figures out a new lineup. "After digging a three-goal deficit, I was proud of the fight that our team showed this afternoon," he said. "We fought hard but came up short today."

In the second period, Steven LeVasseur broke the ice for the Warriors with a power play goal from just outside the left slot hash, and WJ followed by two more perfect shots in the third period on rushes by Max Miotke and Jonathan Gabriel, respectively.

The speedy Warriors failed to get gritty in the slot defended well by Green Wave defense and goaltender Anna Cvitkovich. They did have momentum to include a clutch 5-on-3 penalty kill in OT, but could not stop Joey Martin's top-corner game winner over a sliding defender with less than a minute remaining.
