Admissions

Applying to Walsh Jesuit

The school's motto, Men and Women For and With Others, reflects Walsh Jesuit's determination to change the world — through the lives of students and alumni - into one more closely modeled after Jesus.

Admissions Criteria

Walsh Jesuit evaluates each student's application based, in part, upon the following criteria:
  • Desire for a Walsh Jesuit education
  • Admissions Application
  • Junior high grades (7th and 8th grade)
  • Entrance exam results
  • Teacher recommendations
Students in the 8th grade who wish to apply to Walsh Jesuit must sit for an entrance exam.  A parent information program/ continental breakfast will also be held at each entrance exam session.

Admissions Policy

As a Catholic, college preparatory school in the Jesuit tradition, Walsh Jesuit actively seeks a student body that represents a broad and diverse variety of abilities, talents, backgrounds, and interests.

The Admissions Committee reviews each applicant for admission in a holistic way.  There is no one factor that will inhibit a student from attending Walsh Jesuit, nor one single factor that will ensure student admission.

Walsh Jesuit Application Process for the Class of 2023

Walsh Jesuit Application Process for the Class of 2023
  1. Applicants MUST sit for a Walsh Jesuit High School Entrance Exam or have taken the 7th grade practice exam.
  2. All students must have a MYWJ account where they can complete their biography.
  3. Eighth grade students in Catholic schools in the Diocese of Cleveland will apply for admission to Walsh Jesuit through their Catholic elementary schools by completing the Diocesan admissions application. This application is distributed during High School Selection Week (January 14 -18, 2019).  The grade schools will then forward these applications and student transcripts to Walsh Jesuit.

  5. The Admissions Committee at Walsh Jesuit, chaired by the Admissions Director, is composed of faculty, staff, and administrators. This committee will meet the first week in February to review all applications.
  6. Notification letters will be mailed sometime around February 14, 2019.

Parent Information Program

Anytime a Walsh Jesuit Entrance Exam is held on a Saturday morning, be it 7th grade practice in the spring or 8th grade testing in the fall, a Parent Information Session is offered at the same time. All prospective parents are encouraged to attend.

The Director of Admissions, along with members of the administration, will present an overview of the admissions process and important information about financial aid. In addition, parents will have an opportunity to tour the school campus and to learn about the school's college-preparatory curriculum, campus ministry, extra-curricular activities, transportation, guidance & college placement.  A light continental breakfast will also be made available to all of our parents at these information sessions.

Transfer Students

Walsh Jesuit High School welcomes transfer students with a desire to succeed in the classroom, who show the potential to contribute to the positive growth of the school, and who have a real desire to make the world a better place.

Current high school students who wish to transfer into Walsh Jesuit should complete the Transfer Application (through their MYWJ account) and attach photocopies of the last two years of report cards (including attendance) and a copy of a recent standardized test score.  Don't have a MYWJ account yet?  Click here.

Please Note: After a transfer student application is submitted and reviewed, then the student may make arrangements with the admissions office to shadow a Walsh Jesuit student.

A letter/ document prepared by a school administrator indicating that the student is in good behavioral standing will be required prior to acceptance and enrollment.
