Walsh Jesuit Announces its New Head Varsity Football Coach

Nick Alexander has been named Walsh Jesuit’s new head varsity football coach.
“We are thrilled to have Nick aboard as part of our Walsh Jesuit family. He is the perfect fit for this role as his vision so similarly aligns with our Jesuit mission,” said Walsh Jesuit President, Karl Ertle. “He has strong experience and was very highly recommended to us by some great people in the Northeast Ohio football family--- in addition to his coaching ability, all mentioned what a great person he is.”

Most recently, Alexander completed his second season for John Carroll University as the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. During the 2018 season, the Blue Streaks were ranked No. 4 in the OAC for total offense with 425 yards per game. During his first season in 2017, the Blue Streaks were ranked No. 3 in passing completion percentage with 61.5%.

Rick Finotti, John Carroll University’s head football coach, stated, “I wish Nick Alexander and the entire Walsh Jesuit Community congratulations! This is an incredible opportunity for Nick and his family. I have had the privilege to coach and work alongside Nick and I believe he is ready to take this position on with energy and integrity. Nick knows one way to lead, and that is to create a culture through great respect for the process and care for his players.”

Prior to John Carroll, Alexander spent three years at Mentor High School where he taught business and coached varsity football. During the 2015 and 2016 seasons, he was the co-offensive coordinator and was responsible for the passing game. In the 2015 season vs. St. Ignatius, Alexander led a passing attack that set school records for passing yards in a game (523) and receiving yards in a game (342). In 2014, he coached the wide receivers for the Cardinals.

Prior to coaching at Mentor, Alexander coached the quarterbacks at St. Edward High School. During his two seasons there, the Eagles were 22-3. Alexander worked with quarterbacks who set school records for: passes completed in a game (30), passing yards in a game (370 yards), completion percentage for a season (62.82%) and touchdown passes for a season (20).

“I am humbled and honored to be chosen as the head football coach at Walsh Jesuit High School. I look forward to helping each player reach the highest potential on and off the field. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and I’m ready to get to work,” stated Alexander.

Alexander earned his bachelor's degree in business from Capital University, where he played quarterback and was a three-year letterman and a captain his senior year. He attended Mayfield High School, where he was a captain and earned first team all-conference honors in football (quarterback) and baseball (pitcher). Alexander and his wife Darcy (Riley) Alexander, a 2007 Walsh Jesuit graduate, live in Hudson.
