Walsh Jesuit’s Nolan Quinn Commits to Mercyhurst University

Walsh Jesuit senior Nolan Quinn has made a commitment to continue his academic and athletic career as a Laker for Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania.

He will play for the school’s NCAA Division II baseball program under Head Baseball Coach Charlie Spano. Quinn is one of the first members of the 2018 Walsh Jesuit baseball team to announce he will continue his baseball career at the collegiate level.
A middle infielder/outfielder for the Warriors, Quinn helped lead the team to the OHSAA Division I regional semifinals in 2017 and was also a member of the nationally-ranked 2016 Warrior team. Last season he batted .329 with an on-base percentage of .424. According to Quinn, the experience of being a Warrior has shaped who he is and has left a lasting impression on him.

“Being and playing as a Warrior has been a very special experience. The Walsh community backs each program in a very unique way. However, the baseball program it is much more than a community – it is a family. Coach Kaczmar, along with all the other coaches, run and treat this program like a college program with aspects that the professional organizations use, providing every player with everything necessary to succeed at the next level. This program teaches every player valuable life lessons and forms every player into a true Man for Others. Going forward, I will take with me a vast amount of knowledge and skill that I believe will help me succeed on and off the field,” said Quinn.

“What a true joy it has been having Nolan as a member of Walsh Jesuit Baseball for four years,” said Chris Kaczmar, Walsh Jesuit’s head baseball coach. “His kindness is contagious, he is a tremendously loyal person with a very mature approach to the game and life, and he is an extraordinary ambassador to our program. He is trustworthy, dependable and talented. He is skilled in many areas on the baseball field and is very versatile, and he is an extremely hard worker that has such a bright future at Mercyhurst. Above all I consider him a good friend whom I admire a great deal and someone I’m going to miss a great deal after 2018. Coach Spano is really getting someone special.”

While a student at Walsh Jesuit, Quinn participated in a Kairos retreat. He also volunteers his time at the Charles Bowlus Charities, Inc., an organization that assists individuals and families dealing with cancer and the health and wellness of women and children.

Quinn, who plans to major in Sport Business Management at Mercyhurst University, is the son of Shannon Quinn of Streetsboro, Ohio.
