WALSH JESUIT MEN WIN THE BARBERTON INVITATIONAL
The Walsh Jesuit men’s swimming team won the Barberton Invitational held January 18th at Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron. Ten area high schools competed at the meet.
Senior Kaden Smesko took first in both the 200 yard IM and 100 yard butterfly, while Junior Simon Hamad won both the 200 and 500 yard freestyle. Senior Alex Wintering placed second in the 200 yard freestyle and third in the 100 backstroke. Sophomore Ryan Wagner placed third in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle. Sophomore Luke Lenz placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke, while Senior Luke Osciak placed third in the 500 yard freestyle. The men dominated the relays by placing first in all three relay events. The 200 yard medley relay team consisted of Smesko, Lenz, Hamad, and Wagner. The 200 yard freestyle relay team included Wintering, Sam Marhofer, Osciak, and Lenz. The 400 yard freestyle team consisted of Hamad, Wagner, Wintering, and Smesko.
