Board member Bernadette Blout Salley, will be honored by the Ohio Black Women's Leadership Caucus at its Annual Salute to Women & Scholarship Luncheon on Saturday, April 27th.
Bernadette is a composer, performer, educator and musical clinician, with international experience. She received her BS in Music Education from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia and an MM with emphasis in Music Education from The University of Akron. In addition to teaching piano, she is the Assistant Minister of Music and the principal accompanist at Arlington Church of God. For over 30 years, Bernadette has provided education in music to countless students, both in the public-school system and the private sector.
She currently serves as the accompanist of the Walsh Jesuit High Chamber Choir and Liturgical Choir, she accompanies and teaches basic keyboard instruction at the Cleveland School of the Arts and helps to prepare senior recitals for performances at the Church of the Covenant and Severance Hall. Bernadette has written orchestrations, taught and conducted the youth orchestra for YEPAW. Additionally, she served as the Musical Director in the 2002 performing arts collaboration between students of Firestone High and the Weathervane Theater in the production of The Wiz. Salley has made strides in education by promoting a love for music among her students, many of whom have continued music study in higher education. She is a woman of commitment and integrity, who has given both time and talent in the fostering of the love of music and the performing arts.
