We are excited to welcome young musicians to Walsh Jesuit High School, and to reward them for their talents and passion for music!
All selected scholarship recipients will receive a yearly scholarship in the amount of $1000. To be considered for the scholarship, students must agree to follow the below criteria and complete an audition and the attached paperwork.
If received, failure to follow the below criteria will result in the non-renewal of the scholarship.
This award is named after Nelson Gorbach, Walsh Jesuit High School’s band director from 1965-2015. We strive to honor Mr. Gorbach’s passion for music education by rewarding excellent young and dedicated musicians with this scholarship.
Criteria:
· Students must be enrolled in at least one performing arts class during the school day, and participate in at least one extracurricular performing arts activity:
Woodwinds, brass players, and percussionists must enroll in concert band. Jazz band can be an additional supplement if they choose.
Keyboards, guitars, and bass players must enroll in jazz band.
String players must enroll in string orchestra.
Vocalists must enroll in chamber choir.
All musicians must participate in an extracurricular music activity (some options include marching band, show choir/combo, fall play, spring musical, etc)
· Students must maintain strong attendance. They must attend all performances for their respective ensembles, and must attend the majority of rehearsals (no more than two absences).
· Students must practice and be prepared for rehearsals and performances in each ensemble.
· Students must remain active in their ensemble every year, and follow this criteria, for the scholarship to renew.
· Students must complete a brief in-person audition
Audition Requirements:
· Completion of attached form, with detailed responses to prompts.
· Submit a video of a musical performance. This can be a video of a solo, or a performance in a group ensemble (band, orchestra, choir, etc).
