Junior and Senior Recognized - Hyland & Neff Scholarships
During our first Mission Day this past Friday morning, Juniors and Seniors gathered in the Chapel for a seminar on leadership. Students heard from Julie Hudec '02, Dean of Students, and Tim Dunn, Director of Campus Ministry, who commissioned this year’s Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.
In addition, two scholarships honoring deceased former Walsh Jesuit students were presented. The Rebecca K. Hyland Scholarship, given annually to a Walsh Jesuit Junior who exhibits characteristics (a joy in living life to the fullest, strong work ethic, genuine interest in learning, dedicated service to others, and a love of family and friends) similar to those demonstrated by the award’s namesake (a 2001 graduate) was presented by Sean Lynch ’94, Assistant Principal of Academics, to Sydney Katona ’21.
The Kevin Thomas Neff Memorial Scholarship award reflects the qualities of Kevin Neff ’04 who passed away his Junior year at Walsh Jesuit following a courageous battle with cancer. The scholarship recognizes a well-rounded Senior, who, in the face of a challenge, exhibits character, effort, and development during his/her time at Walsh Jesuit. It was presented by Jim Storad, Latin teacher to Natalie Chase’20.
Walsh Jesuit High School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic and other school-administered programs.
