Summer Assignments

Summer Assignments

At Walsh Jesuit, learning continues beyond the classroom. Summer assignments are an important part of the “Grad at Grad” experience, encouraging students to grow intellectually, reflectively, and personally throughout the summer months. Rooted in the Jesuit tradition, these assignments help prepare students for a successful year ahead while continuing to form Men and Women for and with Others.

English

List of 3 items.

  • English I

Welcome to Freshman English! Although you will come to Walsh Jesuit from numerous middle schools, the summer reading will allow everyone to start on common ground. Effective reading is one of the primary tools required for success in high school and college. One of the best ways to read effectively is to annotate complex texts to better our sense of understanding.

  • English II

The English 2 teachers have compiled a list of books that they love and are inviting you to choose one book that you want to read from their list. We encourage you to be thoughtful about the book you choose since you finally have a say in the matter; we want you to enjoy what you read this summer! And the works are relevant to themes we will explore in English 2, so we hope to return to these texts as we read more novels, plays, short stories, and poems throughout the year. You must purchase a copy of the book. Borrowed library books, digital copies, or audiobooks are not acceptable versions.
