The St. Jean de Brébeuf Academic and Leadership Scholarships are awarded annually to incoming Walsh Jesuit High School students who demonstrate exceptional academic excellence and a strong commitment to Ignatian leadership. Named in honor of St. Jean de Brébeuf, one of the North American Martyrs, this scholarship recognizes students whose character and aspirations reflect the courage, dedication, and intellectual depth that marked Brébeuf’s life.
A gifted scholar and one of the most learned Jesuits of his time, Brébeuf mastered multiple languages and pursued knowledge with humility and purpose. His life exemplified the Jesuit ideals of forming the mind, nurturing the spirit, and using one’s gifts in service to others. Through his missionary work, he modeled leadership rooted not in authority, but in compassion, respect for culture, and a deep desire to accompany others.
Recipients of the St. Jean de Brébeuf Scholarship embody these same qualities. They are students who strive for academic achievement, lead with integrity, and show a readiness to contribute to their school and community as “Men and Women for Others.”
This scholarship affirms Walsh Jesuit’s commitment to nurturing students who, like Brébeuf, seek excellence, live with courage, and pursue lives of service grounded in the Ignatian tradition. Preference for this scholarship will be given to applicants who have not already been recognized with one of our HSPT merit awards.
