Academic Resource Center

Supporting Every Learner

At Walsh Jesuit, we recognize that every student brings unique strengths, abilities and learning needs to the classroom. Rooted in the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis, or care for the whole person, we are committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to grow, overcome challenges and reach their academic potential.

Through individualized academic adjustments, targeted resources and collaboration among students, families and educators, our Academic Support Department works to provide students with the tools they need to succeed.

Helping Warriors Succeed

Academic success looks different for every student. Walsh Jesuit offers a variety of resources designed to strengthen learning, build confidence and encourage students to take an active role in their education.

Our Academic Support Team works collaboratively with teachers, school counselors and families to identify student needs and connect Warriors with appropriate support.

1. Academic Resource Center (ARC)

The Academic Resource Center provides specialized academic support for students who benefit from additional guidance and individualized learning strategies. Working alongside intervention specialists, students receive support designed to address their learning needs and encourage academic growth.

2. Peer Assisted Learning & Support (PALS)

Learning is strengthened through collaboration. PALS provides opportunities for students to support one another academically, encouraging peer-to-peer learning, shared understanding and confidence in the classroom.

3. Math Lab

The Math Lab provides an additional resource for students seeking assistance with mathematical concepts, problem-solving strategies and course material. Through focused academic support, students can reinforce their understanding and strengthen their mathematical skills.

4. writing lab

Strong writing skills are essential across academic disciplines. The Writing Lab offers students additional support as they develop their writing, strengthen communication skills and build confidence in expressing their ideas.

Planning for a Succesful Transition

Incoming & Transfer Students

Walsh Jesuit is committed to working with families of qualified students with documented disabilities or learning differences, including temporary conditions, to determine appropriate academic adjustments.

Families seeking an Academic Adjustment Plan (AAP) must submit current documentation for review before applying to Walsh Jesuit.

Step 1: Submit Documentation

Families must provide an existing accommodation plan, if applicable, along with current supporting evaluations or documentation from a qualified professional.

Step 2: Individualized Review

The director of academic support reviews the submitted documentation and works with the student and their support team to better understand the student's academic needs.

Step 3: Develop an Academic Adjustment Plan

Following the review process, an Academic Adjustment Plan may be developed to identify appropriate classroom adjustments and support strategies based on the student's documented needs and the resources available at Walsh Jesuit.

Required Documentation

Families should be prepared to provide the following:
  • Current accommodation plan, such as an IEP, Section 504 plan, SEGO plan or service plan, if applicable.
  • Current evaluation report or documentation from a qualified medical or educational professional.
  • Information regarding the student's diagnosis, academic challenges and documented functional limitations.
  • Relevant testing results and recommendations for academic adjustments.
  • Information regarding the evaluator's professional qualifications.
Additional documentation may be requested as part of the review process.

Important: Academic adjustments are determined through an individualized review and are subject to the school's available personnel, programs and resources. Teachers implement the adjustments established through the approved review process.

Support that meets students where they are

Student needs can change throughout high school. Walsh Jesuit takes a collaborative approach to identifying academic challenges, monitoring progress and providing appropriate interventions.

Our Student Assistance Team (SAT) brings together administrators, school counselors, intervention specialists and academic support leadership to discuss student needs and develop individualized strategies for success.

A Three-Tiered approach to student support

Tier 1: Universal Support

All students have access to classroom strategies and academic support resources designed to encourage learning, strengthen foundational skills and promote academic success.

Tier 2: Individualized Support

Students with more significant learning needs may receive intensified, individualized instruction and targeted interventions developed in collaboration with the Academic Support Team.

Tier 3: Targeted Support

Students who need additional assistance may receive more focused interventions, including required participation in designated academic support resources.

Additional Guidance for students and Families

Certain academic and health-related circumstances require additional documentation, coordination or planning. The following information outlines important procedures and considerations for families.

Standardized Testing Adjustments

Students seeking testing adjustments for the ACT, SAT, PSAT or Advanced Placement exams should contact the Academic Support Department to discuss documentation requirements and the appropriate application process.

Testing adjustments are subject to the policies and approval processes established by the applicable testing organization.

Private Evaluations

Families are responsible for expenses associated with private professional evaluations and related services. These costs are not covered by Walsh Jesuit's academic support resources.

Medication

Families must notify the school nurse if a student regularly takes medication. All medication-related procedures must follow Walsh Jesuit's established school policies.

Returning to school following inpatient treatment

Walsh Jesuit works collaboratively with families and professional treatment providers to support students transitioning back to school following inpatient treatment.

The return-to-school process may include appropriate documentation, communication with the school nurse and a meeting with school administrators and counseling personnel to determine the student's educational needs and next steps.

Families should contact the school directly for information regarding the required procedures.

We're here to help

Every student's academic journey is unique, and meaningful support begins with understanding their individual needs.

Whether you're preparing for your student's transition to Walsh Jesuit, exploring academic adjustments or seeking additional resources, our Academic Support Department is available to help families navigate the process.
