  • Luke Ondracek led the Warriors and ADVANCES to the Regional Meet!

    This past weekend the Men’s cross country team participated in the OHSAA District Championship Meet at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. The Warriors ran a strong race and finished in 6th place out of 14 teams, missing qualifying to Regionals by 12 points to the 5th place team. Sophomore Luke Ondracek led the Warriors finishing in 11th place in a time of 16:32. Because he placed in the top twenty of the race, Luke will represent WJ at the Regional Meet next week in Boardman, Ohio. Nice job, Luke! Junior Gavin McHale ran a personal best of 17:06 and placed 24th. Junior Kunal Jain was close behind in 28th place. Senior Karios McCune ran his best time of 17:35 and placed 43rd for the Warriors. Junior Noah Schlueter ran his best time of the season as well. He ran a 17:46 and placed 50th to round out the scoring for the Warriors. This evening, the men’s and women’s Cross Country teams will compete in the Warrior Classic after school today on our home course. Come out and cheer for your fellow Warriors this evening.

  • NCL CHAMPS!

    On a rainy and cold morning, this past weekend the Men’s cross country team participated in and won the North Coast League Championship!
     
    Once again, Super Sophomore Luke Ondracek led the Warriors by winning the race, which means he is the NCL League Most Valuable Runner. His victory means that WJ has won this race now for four years in a row, and it is the fourth time an Ondracek has won the title. Nice job, Luke!
     
    Kunal Jain also ran a very strong race, finishing 4th overall and earning First Team NCL Honors. Fellow Junior, Gavin McHale placed 6th and also earned First Team NCL Honors.
     
    Junior Gavin Carr finished 9th and Senior Karios McCune finished 11th, and they both earned Second Team NCL Honors.
     
    Noah Schlueter finished 17th and earned an Honorable Mention Award.
     
    Despite putting five runners in the top ten places of the race, the Open Team finished second in their race. The top five finishers for the Warriors were Senior Seth Carr, Sophomores Dominic Bertoni and Joe Zakelj, Freshman Jack Bagne, and Junior Brennan Eggleston.
     
    Next weekend, the Running Warrior will compete in the OHSSA District Meet.

  • Varsity finishes 6th out of 17 teams!

    The Varsity team took 6th out of 17 teams in a very competitive race. The Varsity team was led by the 5h place finish of Sophomore Luke Ondracek and the 22nd place finish of Junior Kunal Jain.  Junior Gavin McHale finished 27th and Senior Karios McCune placed 56th. Junior Noah Schlueter rounded out the scoring for the Warriors in 66th place.
     
    Perhaps, it was the ideal running conditions or, maybe, it was the determination of the team, but 13 runners ran their personal best time of their season and even their running career at WJ. Congrats to the following guys who set personal best times: Kunal Jain, Luke Lenz, Tim Burke, Nick Saunders, Dominic Bertoni, Jack Bagne, Seth Carr, Brody Toth, Kenneth Nazareth, Frank Qin, Michael Albertini, and Angelo Ciccolini. Special shout out goes to Freshmen Jack Bagne for being the first WJ finisher in the Open race.
     
    Next weekend, the Running Warrior will compete in the North Coast League Championship, which is held at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School on Saturday.

  • VARSITY FINISHES 11TH OUT OF 25!

     
    The Men’s cross country had a positive and strong performance this past weekend in Rochester, New York, where they participated in the 55th Annual McQuaid Invitational, one of the biggest cross country meets in the entire United States.
     
    The Warriors competed in three different races this past Saturday.
     
    The JV team ran in a race against 28 other teams against over 400 runners.   At the end, they finished 10th overall. Junior Brennan Eggleston, Sophomore Jack Meermans, Sophomore Marcus Kendal, Junior James Bagne, and Senior Jason Sagun scored for the Warriors.
     
    The Varsity B team placed 13th out of 25 teams. Sophomores Tim Burke, Nick Saunders, Joe Zakelj, and Dominic Bertoni and Senior Seth Carr scored for the Warriors.
     
    The Varsity team took 11th out of 25 teams in what was the most competitive race of the day. The Varsity team was led by the 8th place finish of Sophomore Luke Ondracek who earned an elite runner’s status with his time of 15:34. Juniors Gavin McHale and Kunal Jain each ran 16:32 and finished 50th and 51st respectively. Junior Gavin Carr and Senior Karios McCune rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.
     
    Next weekend, the Running Warrior teams travel to Stow Silver Springs Park to compete in the Stow Bulldog Invitational.

  • 7th out of 19 Teams!

    The varsity team placed 7th out of 19 teams, and was led by the 8th place finish of Sophomore Luke Ondracek and the 34th place finish of Junior Gavin McHale. Juniors Gavin Carr finished in 65th place, Noah Schlueter was 68th, and Kunal Jain was 69th to complete the scoring for the Warriors.
     
    The Open Team also ran well – they placed 5th out of 18 teams in their race, and they were led by four sophomores: Nick Saunders finished 21st Then, Tim Burke placed 27th and Joe Zakelj was 66th and Dominic Bertoni was 67th . Senior Seth Carr placed 89th to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
     
    Next weekend, the Running Warriors will travel to Rochester, New York, to participate in the McQuaid Jesuit Invitational, which is the largest cross country invitational east of the Mississippi River.

  • The Varsity Team placed 9th out of 26 teams

    This past weekend, the Men’s cross country team competed in the Galion Cross Country Invitational, which is a very big and competitive meet.
     
    The Varsity Team placed 9th out of 26 teams, and was led by Sophomore Luke Ondracek who placed 9th in a time of 16:15. Junior Gavin McHale was 52nd, Junior Kunal Jain was 79th. Senior Karios Mccune was 80th. Junior Gavin Carr was 84th.
     
    The Open Team placed seventh in their race. The following runners scored for the Warriors: Sophomore Tim Burke placed 26th, Sophomore Joe Zakelj placed 31st, Senior Seth Carr was 48th, Junior Patrick Heider was 54th, and Junior Jack Meermans was 65th.
     
    The Running Warriors will travel to Strongsville to compete in another big and competitive invitational next Saturday.

  • MEN PLACE 7th

    The Men’s Varsity cross country team placed 7th out of 12 teams in their home invitational.
     
    The Varsity team was led by Sophomore Luke Ondracek who placed 2nd and Junior Gavin McHale who placed 23rd. Junior Kunal Jain finished 41st, Junior Gavin Carr placed 49th and Senior Karios McCune was 58th for the Warriors.
     
    The Junior Varsity team placed fourth in their race against 10 teams.   The team was led by Sophmore Luke Lenz who finished 8th and then by Sophomore Nick Suanders who was 13h overall. Sophomore Joe Zakelj placed 18th and Sophomore Dominic Bertoni placed 20th. The last man to score for the Warriors was Freshmen Jack Bagne in 39th place. Great showing for the JV team!

  • Warriors finished tied for 4th!

    The Warriors finished tied for 4th, but lost on a sixth man tie breaker, so were fifth overall.
     
    The Running Warriors were led by the impressive 2nd place finish of Sophomore Luke Ondracek in a time of 16:21. Four Juniors were the next to score: Gavin McHale finished 17th , Gavin Carr was 42nd, Kunal Jain was 46th, and Noah Schlueter was 49th.
