Records Fall as Warriors Win NCL Championship

The Warrior men’s swimming team once again won the North Coast League Championship Meet to continue its domination of the annual event. Walsh Jesuit won every swimming event contested at the meet, held on February 3 at Gilmour Academy, to outscore runner-up Archbishop Hoban 178-108. 
The Warriors broke five meet records and six pool records on their way to the title. Senior Richie Kurlich set two new meet and pool records while winning the 100 yard butterfly (51.22) and 100 yard breaststroke (58.14). He also joined Adam Lenz, Andrew Kurlich, and Kaden Smesko in winning the 200 yard medley relay (1:38.83), setting new meet and pool records in the process.

The trio of R. Kurlich, Lenz, and Smesko teamed with Colin Gaffney to set new meet and pool records in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:17.27). Smesko also set new meet and pool records in the 100 yard backstroke (51.74) and Lenz set a new pool record in winning the 50 yard freestyle (22.22).

Other first place finishes by the Warriors included Lenz in the 100 yard freestyle (49.49), Smesko in the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.45), A. Kurlich in the 200 yard individual medley (2:09.11), Jacob Crissman in the 500 yard freestyle (5:14.16) and the men’s 200 yard freestyle relay (1:33.80) of Gaffney, Crissman, Nick Telerico, and A. Kurlich.
