Shattuck St. Mary Slams Door on WJ’s Cornfield Cup Bid

Shattuck St. Mary’s denied Walsh Jesuit an appearance in the Cornfield Cup final by downing the Warriors 8-1 on Saturday, December 9 at Culver Academy.

St. Mary's, from Faribault, MN, won the Cup by defeating host Culver in the finals.
The Warriors came out with energy and out-chanced the Sabres in the first period, but defensive zone breakdowns left open attackers at the goalmouth for a goal, then two, then three, and the fight to stand up to this team started to wane.

The quit did not go out of Connor Coughlin, however, as even down 7-0 his remarkable 3rd period forechecking kept the puck in the zone three times against two defenders, working it free for Sasha Trudel to ruin the shutout from the top of the right circle. It was Trudel’s second goal of the tournament.
