Warriors Grind Out 3-0 Victory Over Bethel Park

Walsh Jesuit unveiled a welcome new facet of its character in this young hockey season, one willing to get gritty, in defeating Bethel Park (Pa.) 3-0 at the Thanksgiving Invitational at the Kent State University Ice Arena on Saturday, November 25.
Scoreless into the third period, Connor Cook put the Warriors on the board as he stuffed in the third-period game winner after a toe-to-toe battle in the crease. Then, PJ Calleri muscled a puck down low to Jonathan Gabriel for a successful backhander to extend the Warrior advantage to 2-0. Finally, Max Miotke iced the game with a long empty-netter to close out scoring.

The grit extended to the defense effort, led by captain Drew Rossiter, and a team effort in blocking shots that included Nick Neiger and Connor Coughlin while shorthanded late. Goalie Jakari Desphy earned his first shutout this season, making it stand going side-to-side as he turned away two point-blank opportunities in the final few minutes.

"We are inches away, we keep talking about it as a team," said WJ Head Coach Pat McKendry. "This was a good win over a very well coached Bethel Park team.

"We are proud of our effort in all phases of the game and Jakhari pitched a shutout today which is great of course."
