Warriors and Titans Clash To Open Thanksgiving Invitational At Kent State

Special teams accounted for all the scoring as the Walsh Jesuit hockey team tied Toledo St. John, 2-2, in The Thanksgiving Invitiational opener for both teams at Kent State Univeristy on Friday, November 24.

St. John's eight penalties helped the WJ power play gel as the Warriors scored twice. However, they also gave up a shorthanded tally to the Titans. The Warriors had a 30-19 shot advantage but their four penalties included a 5-minute major in the third period which the Titans used to tie up the game.
Max Miotke won the first period for Walsh Jesuit on a feed from Drew Rossiter down to the right dot after good control in the offensive zone. In the second period, St. John's William Bowler answered, gaining the right edge 1-on-2 shorthanded and a low, far-side shot.

The Warriors regained the lead when Matt Morris settled the puck down for Steven LeVasseur, who deked a penalty killer at the left hash and released a rising shot from the top of the slot.

Despite a major penalty in the third period against the Warriors, WJ nearly escaped thanks to a Titan tripping penalty part way through. However, once St. John's regained the advantage they tied it up 2-all on a mad scramble at the goal mouth.

Holiday action continues for the Warriors on Saturday at Kent State with Bethel Park.
