Two Seniors Received Walsh Jesuit’s Highest Award

Chloe Gunther and Vince Rizzo received the Jesuit Schools Network (JSN) Award. JSN promotes the educational ministry of the Society of Jesus among Jesuit secondary and pre-secondary schools in the United States and Canada.
Chloe Gunther came to Walsh Jesuit from St. Bernard Parish and Miller South Middle School. Each year at Walsh Jesuit she has excelled academically, consistently earning first or second honors, and challenging herself with multiple Advanced Placement classes. Most notably, Chloe has distinguished herself through involvement with Campus Ministry. Chloe “has helped Campus Ministry think of programs in new ways, brainstormed how to get more students involved and created a group/program from the ground up. She has been a leader since her freshman year when she became involved in the school’s Labre ministry. Chloe has been a part of Walsh Jesuit’s delegation to the annual Ignatian Family Teach-in in Washington, D.C. Her involvement there and with the Jesuit Refugee Service resulted in her coordinating a school-wide educative simulation of the plight of migrants and refugees earlier this year. Chloe is mature; she is humble; an unassuming super-star. Her character, her faith, and her commitment inspire her peers and adults around her. This fall, Chloe will continue her studies at Seattle University where she is one of nine recipients of the Sullivan Leadership Award.  This award covers the entirety of their undergraduate tuition, housing, and meals for four years of study.

Vince Rizzo also received this year’s JSN award. Vince came to Walsh Jesuit from St. Joseph Parish and School in Cuyahoga Falls. Vince, too, has excelled academically, consistently earning first or second honors each of his semesters at Walsh Jesuit, and challenging himself with multiple Advanced Placement classes. Vince is a star on and off the field. He is a two-sport varsity athlete playing football and basketball. And, when not on the court or field, he is integral to the team, keeping its spirits up, cheering on his teammates, and modeling great sportsmanship.  Those qualities carry over into the hallways, classrooms and assemblies here at school.  Always encouraging; always upbeat and smiling; always seeing the positive in the world around him and in others. Vince has served as a Kairos leader and is a regular with the Labre Homeless Ministry and all things Campus Ministry. This spring, Vince impressed the audience at the First Friday Club of Akron telling of the impact Catholic schooling has had on his life.  Vince will continue his Catholic schooling next year at John Carroll University.
