WARRIOR PIGSKIN

WALSH 42 N.D.C.L. 28

Your football warriors jumped on N.D.C.L. early Friday night, and never looked back. After taking the opening kickoff to the 40 yard line, Bryan DiCillo gouged the lion defense for 24 yards on the first play from scrimmage. Eight plays later, Pat Ford ran around the right side for 10 yards to open the scoring. Mike Knoll added the kick, and with barely any time off the clock, the warriors were up 7-0.

Well, N.D.C.L. answered the bell with a 10 play scoring drive that tied the score at 7-7.   On the next series, Zach Hatlovic caught a Pat Ford pass and took it to the lion 17. Five plays later, Bryan DiCillo found the end zone making the score 14-7 WJ. The next series for N.D.C.L. began with a 2 yard loss as DJ Aguilar broke through the line and made a great play. Three and out for the lions and Walsh began on the N.D.C.L. 40. Three plays later, Pat Ford found “the goose”, Anthony Siragusa open in the secondary for a score. Nice catch goose! Knoll readied himself for the kick…………..dang it Mike! Just kick the thing! The kick was good, 21-7 WJ.

N.D.C.L. again, is forced to punt on the next series. Bryan DiCillo decided that he was going to block it, and he did. Then he recovered the ball as well. That kid can do it all! Nice job Bryan! “Yea” Three plays later, DiCillo was in the end zone again. The kick was good, 28-7 at the beginning of the second quarter.

The second half began with your warriors up 28-14. Early in the 3rd quarter, Pat Ford passed to Matt Clark for an easy score. Your football warriors are now up 35-7. DiCillo capped off the scoring with a 7 yard run in the 4th quarter. The final score was, Walsh Jesuit 42, N.D.C.L. 28. This Friday night the warriors host the Benedictine Bengals in the homecoming game.

WALSH 21, PADUA 17

Your football warriors won their second straight as they beat the bruins of Padua Franciscan Friday night in the closing minute of the game. Six plays into the game Alex Rodriguez intercepted a bruin pass at the WJ 28 and returned it to the 35. The warriors went 3 and out on their first series. Padua took over at their own 45, and on the first play from scrimmage, found an open receiver behind the WJ defense for a 55 yard TD. Padua led 7-0 with 7:53 to go in quarter number 1.

WJ moved the ball on the next series beginning with a pass from Pat Ford to Zach Hatlovic for a 29 yard gain. Two plays later, Nick Schlosser was wide open in the end zone, TD warriors. Mike Knoll added the kick tying the score at 7-7. After a great kick by Knoll, the bruins began on their own 20. Seven plays later they are in the end zone again, 14-7 Padua. Three and out for the warriors on the next series, and Padua began on their own 43. The Walsh “D” had settled in, and forced a 3 and out.

On the next series, the bruins intercepted a Pat Ford pass on the first play of the second quarter, and move in for a field goal, making the score 17-7 Padua. Zach Hatlovic intercepted his second pass in 2 games, again returning it for a score. Knoll added the kick, 17-14 Padua.

Fast forward to the 4th quarter where both teams had traded punts, but time was running out for the warriors. Not so fast! Pat Ford orchestrated a drive that began on his own 10, with 4:35 left in the game. Ford and Rozum moved the ball down the field with their superb running skill while Phil Bell aided the cause with a nice catch and 2 penalties going against Padua trying to defend Bell. With 43 seconds left in the game, and the ball at the bruin 3, DJ Aguilar was called on and he ran for the go ahead TD, making the score 21-17 WJ. I don’t think the coaches on the opposite sideline were too happy!

WALSH 45, BARBERTON 14
"Make money, money, make money, money!" "Go Schulli, go Schulli, go Schulli go." The warriors had it all goin on post game Friday night after an old fashioned butt whippin at Magics stadium. Your football warriors got back on the winning track in a big way, and there were many who played their best game on a beautiful night for football. The warriors began the game 1st and 10 at their own 37. Pat Ford and company moved the ball to the Barberton 11, where the drive stalled, after a 4th and short attempt.
The WJ defense forces a three and out, and Walsh began at the Barberton 43. Six plays later Mike Knoll kicked a 35 yard field goal, 3-0 WJ. On the next series, the Walsh defense allowed some yardage, but ended up forcing another punt, first and ten warriors at their own 32 yard line. Pat Ford threw to the "goose" Anthony Siragusa, for a big chunk of real estate to the magic 24, and then Ford found the "goose" Anthony Siragusa again, open in the right flat for a gain to the Barberton 5 yard line. Three plays later, DJ Aguilar walked into the end zone, making the score 10-0 WJ with 10:35 left in the second quarter.
The next series for Barberton was short lived, as Zach Hatlovic stepped in front of a pass, and returned it 35 yards for another score. The warriors are up 17-0, and would score some more before the half ended. The "D" played well forcing yet another punt, and the "O" needed only four plays on the next series to make the score 24-0, on an Anthony Rozum run. Still plenty of time left to score again! Another three and out for the WJ defense and seven plays later, DJ Aguilar from 17 yards out refused to be stopped. He rumbled into the end zone from 11 yards out, making the score at half time Walsh 31, Barberton 0.
The second half was more of the same with WJ scoring two more times. Jonny (nuggets) Jackson, and Joe Penna finish it off. This Friday the warriors travel to Padua Franciscan to play the bruins ( bruin; a European brown bear). Hope you can make the trip!

ST.V. 35 Walsh Jesuit 20
The warriors hosted the Irish from St. Vincent St. Mary Friday night in Conway. It could have been quite possibly the largest crowd for a home game in many years. The support from the students was amazing and greatly appreciated. The warriors were prepared to give the Irish everything that they could handle, and at times, that is just what they did. WJ moved the ball, and the defense held the vaunted Irish speed in check through most of the game. WJ had some big plays including a kickoff return for a touchdown by junior Anthony Rozum. Mistakes and turnovers ultimately took a toll on the warriors, along with the skill that St. V. possessed. Scoring for your warriors were seniors; Brian Di Cillo, Mike Knoll, and junior Anthony Rozum. The warriors hope to get back on track this Friday when Bishop Watterson makes the long drive to Conway.
