18th century Spanish Jesuits try to protect a remote South American Indian tribe in danger of falling under the rule of pro-slavery Portugal. Story is based on the “Reductions” founded by Jesuits in Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The film stars Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons; it won numerous awards.

"We know that all creation groans and is in agony even until now,

and not only creation but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit,

groan inwardly as we await the redemption of our bodies."

                                                                                                (Romans, 8:22-23)

Future dates:  Saturday, November 15, 2014, Saturday, January 24, 2015.  Plus two further dates to be announced; watch Walsh Jesuit website for dates and movie titles.

Sponsored by the Office of Mission & Identity, this program screens recent feature films and offers the opportunity for reflection and discussion afterwards. Films which highlight themes from St. Ignatius' Spiritual Exercises are selected. They remind us of the constant dialogue that goes on between God and ourselves.
