Mr. Karl Ertle, President, Walsh Jesuit High School
Karl is a native Clevelander and is the eleventh President of Walsh Jesuit High School. Prior to his position at Walsh Jesuit, he served as president/principal of Cleveland Central Catholic High School, and he worked for 21 years at St. Ignatius High School in a variety of positions, including teaching, coaching and as an administrator, Vice president for Mission. He earned his B.A. in English from Borromeo College and his M.A. in Religious Studies from John Carroll University, and has done post-graduate work at many of the Jesuit colleges and universities. Karl has a passion for Jesuit education, and speaks often on the topic of the Spiritual Exercises. He is an avid sports fan and loves to bike, coach and officiate.
Mr. Richard P. Bedell '70 ' Chairman
Richard, a CPA, is the President of Bedell CFO Services. A graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School, Richard went onto earn his BSBA with a concentratrion in Accounting from John Carroll University and his MBA at Case Western University Weatherhead School of Management. Richard and his wife Kathy have four grown children and reside in Stow, Ohio. He has served as the Chair of the Finance Council at Holy Family Church, President of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of Financial Executives International and is a member of the Holy Family School Endowment Committee and member of the Rotary International-Stow Munroe Falls Chapter. Richard joined the Board in 2010.
Mrs. Carol Bachmann
Carol began her career as an advertising/marketing executive with Malone Advertising, Bachmann & Klein Advertising and Louis & Partners Design. She holds a BS in Marketing from the University of Akron. Carol resides in Medina with her husband Mark ’80. They are the proud parents of Joseph ’10, Michael ’12, Jeffrey ’14 and Katie ’19. Carol’s career shifted in 1998 when she chose to stay home and raise her family. Her service at Walsh Jesuit includes co-chairing POWWOW in 2009, serving as WJ’s Mother’s Club President 2012-2014 and co-chairing the year-long celebratory events commemorating Walsh Jesuit’s 50th anniversary. She is also an active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish serving on their stewardship committee. Carol joined the Board in 2015.
Mr. Stacy Brovitz '77
Stacy is a 1977 graduate of Walsh Jesuit. He earned his B.S. in Accounting from The Ohio State University and his MBA in Finance from Carnegie Mellon University. Recently retired, Stacy was previously VP of Capital Markets at JP Morgan Chase, CEO of Dormont Manufacturing, SVP of Global Operations at Herbalife International and President of Bacharach, Inc. Stacy resides in Pittsburgh, PA and is active in several charities in the Pittsburgh area. He joined the board in 2014.
Mr. Edward Buehrle, '83
Ed (83') and his wife Tina reside in Akron and have four boys ages 12 - 19 and one who graduated from Walsh in 2014. Ed is a commercial real estate and finance attorney at Krugliak Wilkins Griffiths & Dougherty LPA, in the firm's downtown Akron office. Ed graduated from Hillsdale College and obtained his JD and MBA from the University of Akron. Ed has been a member of the Board since 2014.
Rev. Michael Christiana, SJ
Fr. Christiana of the Chicago-Detroit Province, serves at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis as the Vice President for Mission and Identity. Fr. Christiana hails from Rochester, MN and earned a B.A. in History, Religion, and Chinese at St. Olaf College. He entered the Jesuits in 1999 and earned an M.A. in philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. He also holds an M.Div. from the University of Chicago. From 2003 to 2006, he served his regency at Brebeuf. From 2007 to 2010, Fr. Christiana studied theology at Boston College. Fr. Christiana was ordained as a priest on June 11, 2010 in Milwaukee. He has been a member of the Board since 2012.
Mr. Richard Ciccarone '70
Richard joined the Walsh Jesuit Board in 2014. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Merritt Research Services, LLC, an independent municipal bond data and research company based in Chicago with its principal operations in Hiawatha, Iowa. He is also co-owner and co-publisher of MuniNetguide.com.
Richard has over 35 years of investment management and research experience, specializing in municipal bonds. Until his retirement in 2013, he was a Managing Director and the Chief Research Officer at McDonnell Investment Management, LLC, an institutional fixed income management firm based in Oak Brook, Illinois. Prior to McDonnell, he held management roles in asset management and fixed income research for Van Kampen Investments, Inc., EVEREN Securities, Inc. as well as its predecessor firms (Kemper Securities, Inc. and Blunt Ellis & Loewi, Inc.), and Harris Bank. He is a co-founder and past national Chairman of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts (NFMA). Richard served as President of the Society of Municipal Analysts and the Chicago Municipal Analysts Society and is a past member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council. He is currently an Executive board member of the Civic Federation of Chicago and the Board of Directors of the Hinsdale Hospital Foundation. He has served as an elected trustee of the Village of Hinsdale, IL, as well as a former board member of the Firefighters Pension Fund and the Village’s Plan Commission. He and his wife, Marilyn, are active members of St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Hinsdale, IL. Richard has received numerous awards and distinctions from Institutional Investor magazine, Smith’s Research & Gradings, and The Bond Buyer for his work related to municipal bond research. He has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Smith’s Research & Gradings and a Career Achievement Award from the NFMA. He has written a number of articles on municipal finance and is frequently cited in the national media on municipal bonds. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Miami University (Oxford, OH) and his Master’s from The University of Akron.
Rev. Thomas M. Doyle, S.J.
Fr.Thomas Doyle is the Vice President for Jesuit Identity at St. John’s Jesuit High School, where he also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees. He completed his undergrad work at Marquette University and then went onto St. Michael’s Institute at Gonzaga University and later Weston Jesuit School of Theology. Fr. Doyle also serves on the Brebeuf Jesuit High School Board of Trustees. He has been a member of the Board since 2010.
Joseph M. Haag ‘84
Joe is President of Action SuperAbrasive Products. He and his wife Dena reside in Stow Ohio, along with their four children. They are active members of Holy Family Parish in Stow. Joe joined the Board in 2013.
Christina Lauria a a retired executive from Roadway Express and YRC Worldwide currently working as an Independent Consultant and Adjunct Professor.
Lauria joined Roadway in 1983. From 1983 to 1991, she held positions of increasing responsibility in pricing analysis and pricing management. In 1991 she was named director of the pricing department and in 1998 became an executive officer. She served as vice president of pricing administration and vice president of yield management until 2006. She served as vice president of strategic alliances with responsibility for business strategy, customer alliances and improving portfolio profitability prior to being named vice president of the newly formed Enterprise Solutions Group for YRCW in 2007 where she was responsible for development of the enterprise concept and client strategy of the multiple brands. Since retirement in 2009, Lauria works as an independent consultant in the logistics and legal fields and serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Akron and Walsh University.
Lauria holds an MBA from Baldwin Wallace University and a bachelor’s degree in technical education from the University of Akron. She has completed executive education programs at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, Penn State and the University of California, Los Angeles. Lauria holds a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute.
Mrs. Janice Margheret
Janice is a CPA and co-owner of Margheret & Associates, a wealth management firm. Janice graduated from Youngstown State University earning a BSBA with concentration in Accounting and Marketing. Her professional experience includes SVP and Divisional President at Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Inc., audit manager at Ernst & Young, and serving on profit and not for profit Boards. She and her husband Dan have two children. Janice is involved in the Solon City Schools where she serves on the Strategic Planning Committee and is an active member at the Church of the Resurrection in Solon, Ohio. She joined the Board in 2012.
Mr. Joe Micheller
Joe is the Executive Director of New School Development for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Joe graduated from the University of Akron with a doctor of education. He and his wife Diane live in the Village of Silver Lake and are the parents of Dan 04, Jackie 07, and Kimmy 10. Joe has been a life-long educator having served as Director of Educational Services, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Schools in north eastern Ohio communities. Joe also teaches graduate courses in educational leadership and curriculum and instruction for Cleveland State University and John Carroll University. Joe joined the Board in 2015.
Mrs. Mary Miles
Mary resides in Richfield, Ohio and has three children-Kerry, Molly and Matt. Her youngest, Matt, is a 2013 Walsh Jesuit graduate. Mary is a Human Resource executive whose career has spanned the public, private, and consulting industries. For the past 9 years, she has worked at Lorain National Bancorp, Inc. as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Professional Development, and Security. Mary attended Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources and later obtained a MBA. Mary has been involved with a number of charitable endeavors at the grassroots level and joined the Board in 2013.
Mrs. Julia D'Andrea Norton 01'
Julia is the Director of Administration for R&D Exploration, Inc. She graduated with a BA degree in Public Relations and a Minor in Marketing from the University of Dayton. Julia serves as the Executive Director of Reach Ohio, a non-profit that uses media to connect Ohio women facing unplanned pregnancies with life-affirming resources. She and her husband, Steve, reside in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, along with their three children. They are active members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Cuyahoga Falls. She joined the Board in 2013.
Rev. Donald J. Petkash, S.J.
Fr. Don Petkash entered the Jesuits in 1958, following graduation from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. After ordination in 1971, he taught at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School for nine years and at St. Ignatius High School for eleven years. In 1991 he was appointed superior of the Jesuit community at Walsh Jesuit High School and in 1992 was named President of the school. He served in that role until 2003. He later served five years as the Provincial Assistant for Secondary Education in the Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus, before returning to Walsh Jesuit in 2009 to serve as Vice-President for Mission and Identity.
Mrs. Bernadette Salley
Mr. Christopher A. Scala
Chris is the Vice President of Kenmore Construction and the President of American Sand and Gravel. He graduated from The University of Akron in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management. He and his wife Denise have two grown children and reside in Canton, Ohio. Chris is actively involved in the Girl Scouts of N.E. Ohio Board. He joined the Walsh Jesuit Board in 2011.
Mr. Robb Scherler '86
Robb is President and Chief Executive Officer of Freeway Corporation. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1991 where he earned his BSBA in Finance. He and his wife Kristi have two children and reside in Bath, Ohio. He is an active member in St. Hilary Parish. Robb joined the Board of Directors in 2015.
Fr. Shelton of the Wisconsin Province, teaches theology and coaches cross-country at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. Fr. Shelton hails from Columbus, OH and earned a B.A. in History and Classical Languages from Marquette University. Following his graduation from Marquette, he entered the Jesuits in 2003. In 2008, he earned an M.A. in applied philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. He also holds both a M.Div. and a S.T.L. in moral theology from Boston College. From 2008 to 2011, he served his regency at Marquette University High School. Fr. Shelton was ordained as a priest on June 7, 2014 in Milwaukee. Following ordination he served as the associate pastor of St. Procopius parish in Chicago. He joined the Board in 2015.
Rev. Edward J. Siebert '84
Fr. Edward (Eddie) J. Siebert has Masters degrees in Theology, Education Administration, and Film. He is the founder and president of Loyola Productions in Culver City, California where he has actively produced films and documentaries for fifteen years and for which he has received numerous awards. Fr. Siebert has consulted for The West Wing, The Sopranos, and other major television and film productions. He is chaplain and board member of CIMA, Catholics in Media Associates, which recognizes film and television productions that help us better understand what it is to be part of the human family. Fr. Siebert also teaches a Film & Spirituality class at Loyola Marymount University. He has been a member of the Board since 2010.
Mr. Richard Sistek
Rick began teaching at Walsh Jesuit in 1985. He is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy and the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley, California. His classes at Walsh Jesuit include AP U.S. Government & Politics and Global Studies. Rick also serves as the director of Senior Experience. He has been a member of the Board since 2011.
Mr. Christopher G. Sivak
Chris and his wife Amy have four children. Chris is a Partner at Skoda Minotti. He graduated from the University of Akron in 1988 where he earned his BSBA concentration in Accounting. He is actively involved in the University of Akron School of Accountancy Advisory Board. Chris joined the Board in 2011.
Judge Linda Teodosio
Judge Teodosio works at the Summit County Juvenile Court and is married to Thomas Teodosio ’75. She graduated from the University of Akron with a B.S. in Education and then continued onto law school where she received her J.D. in 1982. Linda is actively involved in the Akron Bar Association, Ohio Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, First Friday Club of Greater Akron and the Summit County Italian American Festival Committee. Linda joined the Board in 2011.
Mr. Douglas Wells
Doug and his wife Missy are the proud parents of four children, all who have graduated from Walsh Jesuit. Doug is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he earned his BA in Finance. Doug is a Sr. Vice President, Financial Advisor and Portfolio Management Director at a financial firm. He is a board member at Boys Hope Girls Hope and Chair of the Finance Council at Holy Family Church in Stow, Ohio. Doug joined the Board in 2012.
